Page 8Simultaneous assassinations including President Lincoln.
Page 10The Captain witnesses the soldiers transport Lincoln’s body to the doctor’s room. Massive devastation.
Page 12Here comes the War Secretary, who immediately tries to control the situation. Montage of the arrests of the possible conspirators.
Page 15The murderer of Lincoln is killed. The nation mourns for the death of the President.
Page 17The Captain meets the senator, who decides to defend one of the eight assassins, which spurs a conflict between them. The Captain believes everything the government says, but the senator believes in the evidence. (OPPORTUNITY OF THE PROTAGONIST THAT LEADS HIM TO THE NEW SITUATION OF DEFENDING THE GUILTY)
Page 19The trial begins. But the senator asks for an adjourn on the ground that the defendant wasn’t allowed to contact counsel until yesterday. The senator is the only one who is awake in the middle of this mess. He understands the purpose of the constitution, which is useful precisely in the time like this. However, in the name of not to prolong the nation’s sorrow, in the name of expedite the process of prosecution,he is not prevailed.
Page 23The senator tries to convince the Captain to do his job as an attorney. But the Captain sees this as a betrayal of his country and allegiance. The fiancée and friends couldn’t believe what the captain is going to do.
Page 24The Captain goes to the prison to see the defendant and he sees that all the actors in the theaters are in prison too.
Page 25The defendant doesn’t trust the Captain for his young age and inexperience. She insists on her innocence and she believes that her fate has been sealed by the way all the others look at her.
Page 29The defendant asks the Captain to look in on her daughter, so he goes to the house to meet the daughter and search his brother’s room. While they are talking, a brick is thrown into the room. (MEETING THE DAUGHTER IS THE CHANGE OF PLAN AND THE SITUATION OF THE DAUGHTER MUST PROVOKE SOME KIND OF SYMPATHY FROM THE PROTAGONIST)
Page 34The Captain goes to the court and his fiancée is also there to understand him. First cross examination of a friend of the defendant’s family. The Captain did a great job trying to establish the incredibility of the witness.
Page 43Captain’s friends congratulate the Captain’s wit at the trial but the fact remains: they all look guilty. The Captain goes to the senator again trying to get off the case. But the senator makes him a deal: if the Captain can prove she is guilty, he will be no longer liable for the defense.
Page 45The Captain goes to see the defendant, who is refusing to eat. The Captain tries to make the defendant to tell the truth. In the end, she confesses that his son conspires to kidnap the President.
Page 48Flashback at the truth: how they abandon the plan and his mother is part of the conspirator. When his son is determined to join the rebellion, she couldn’t stop him. But she swears that she has nothing to do with the conspiracy.
Page 52The Captain goes to see the daughter again and tells her that he is trying to help. (EMOTIONALLY POINT OF NO RETURN BECAUSE THE PROTAGONIST CHANGES HIS ATTITUDE FROM BEING AGAINST THE IDEA OF DEFENSE TO BEING WILLING TO HELP)
Page 53The recollection of a soldier searching the defendant’s house. The witness claims that the defendant pretends that she doesn’t recognize one of the conspirators, but the Captain tries to establish that it was dark and the defendant is half blind.
Page 58The Secretary of War goes to see the senator tries to convince him not to pursue the course any longer. The secretary believes in security of the nation, while the senator believes in the constitution and thinks that the secretary is fear mongering. But they agree that the Captain is going to make powerful enemies. (PHYSICAL POINT OF NO RETURN OF THE REALITY)
Page 60The Captain goes to see the secretary unsuccessfully, only to tell the prosecutor that the defendant is not well enough for the trial and tries to get a better accommodation for the prisoner.
Page 62The Captain talks to the defendant, outside the prison cell. The defendant tries to convince the Captain that they are all the same, fighting something that is greater than themselves.
Page 64Captain and the friends talk about the war experiences and the case that he is representing. His friend is reminding him that stake of the case: if he loses, then he is an incompetent lawyer; if he wins, then he will become a traitor.
Page 66Captain’s fiancé doesn’t understand him either.
Page 67The senator advises to the captain that in order to prove the defendant is not guilty, he has to prove that his son is.
Page 68Another witness testifies that he receives instructions from the defendant after the assassination. The captain tries to prove that it was the son who was guilty, but not the mother, which angers the mother very much.
Page 75The captain finds a rebuttal witness but is overturned by the prosecutor. The captain freaks out and makes a scene at the court. (EVERYTHING IS BOTH PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY LOST AT THE TRIAL)
Page 78The captain finds out that he has been refused to attend to the celebration parties and his fiancé is utterly embarrassed, breaks up with him. And the captain argues with the War Secretary about the citizen’s rights and what he has been fighting for. (EVERYTHING IS EMOTIONALLY LOST IN THE PROTAGONIST’S RELATIONSHIP AND PHYSICALLY LOST IN HIS SOCIAL RELATIONSHIP)
Page 81The captain comes to see the daughter and asks her to accuse his brother. (FINAL PUSH)
Page 82The daughter incriminates his brother under oath, which tears his mom apart.
Page 88The daughter comes to the captain’s place and tells him that she was actually in love with the actor, who later murdered the President.
Page 89The captain comes to talk to the priest, who knows how to pass messages to the son. They have a conflict over whether it is right for the church to harbor the murderer and the captain asks the priest to tell the son that his mother is going to take the punishment for his crime.
Page 90The captain starts his closing statement and tries to sum up how ridiculous the charges are. He tells the committee that the charges are completely out of revenge, and not out of justice.
Page 93The mother confesses that it was her fault that her son committed this crime. She held her son too close.
Page 95After the deliberation, the committee didn’t pass the death penalty for the mother, which pisses off the War Secretary, who changed the majority of opinion.
Page 97It is in the news. Daughter is devastated. The captain still wants to try something, but the senator has already given up and tells the captain not to sacrifice himself when his son is not even willing.
Page 98The captain still want to try a free-thinker judge to stop the execution becausehe thinks what they are doing is wrong. (CLIMAX: TRYING AND WINNING THE IMPOSSIBLE)
Page 100The captain goes to see the judge and tries to convince him what they did was wrong. After the judge signs the order, the captain goes to see the War Secretary. They again have a fight over the issue. But it appears that the captain has won temporarily.
Page 104While the daughterand mom are celebrating this temporary victory, the mother is sent to be hanged after the president has suspendedthe judge’s order. In the time of war, the law is silent.
Page 106The mother is escorted to be hanged.
Page 111The captain goes to see the son who has finally been captured. When he offers the necklace of his mother, he turns it down and offers it to the captain. (AFTERMATH)
with chloe~
